Fall 2018

Bryan is on sabbatical and is working in
Josh Gendon's lab this semester.  He is doing IP/MS with a novel decoy strategy to find F-box protein interactors and carrying out ubiquitylation assays for putative F-box protein targets.

May - Ryan gives a talk entitled "Arabidopsis thaliana F-box Proteins Interact with 14-3-3 Proteins in the Ubiquitin 26S Proteasome System" at the 21st Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium at the University of Washington Seattle campus.

Congratulations to Lily for winning the University of Puget Sound President's Award for Academic Excellence and the Gordon D. Alcorn Award in Biology.  Also, congratulations to Elena for winning the Writing Excellence Award in Natural Science and Mathematics and to Anneke for winning an Outstanding First-Year Student Award.  Congratulations to Tina, Ryan, and Megan for graduating in the Honors Program.

Lily, Megan, Tina, and Ryan present their summer research at the annual Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium at Puget Sound. 

The Thines Lab is awarded a three year grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust to study the interaction between F-box and 14-3-3 proteins in plant stress responses (see Research page).

Spring 2016

Congratulations to Meghan Bacher (Puget Sound) and Karen Chan (Scripps College) on their Goldwater Scholarships.

Congratulations to Meghan Bacher for being selected to receive an ASPB summer research fellowship.  Meghan will be using bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) to look at F-box protein interactions at Puget Sound this summer.

Our proposal for transcriptome analysis of the fbs1-1 mutant in salt stress was selected for the NSF/CSHL workshop on “Bringing RNA-Seq to Undergraduate Education.”  The dataset generated will be used by undergraduate researchers in the lab, and in Genetics and Molecular Biology classes at Puget Sound.



Summer 2015

Liya is working in Dr.  Martin Jensen’s lab at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in Novato, CA.  Aileen is working in Dr. Jose Dinneny’s plant biology lab at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Stanford, CA.


Spring 2015

April – Kristen, Kyle, Aileen, Karen, Liya, and Carin presented their work at the annual West Coast Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Conference in San Diego, CA.

January – Lizzie presents her work as part of a poster entitled “Is hybridization between an endemic and a widespread native plant cause for conservation concern?  Soft-leaved paintbrush (Castilleja mollis) on Santa Rosa Island?” at the 2015 California Native Plant Society meeting in San Jose, CA.

January - Kyle presents his work on “The Ubiquitin 26S Proteasome and Abscisic Acid Signaling in Arabidopsis thaliana” at the annual Plant and Animal Genome conference in San Diego, CA.



Fall 2014

November  – Congratulations to Julie, Austin, and Erica on their paper being accepted in Plant Signaling and Behavior.

October – Congratulations to Lizzie on her Scripps Environmental Research award.



Summer 2014

Anna and Kristen are awarded REU summer internships.  Anna is working in Dr. Adrienne Roeder’s lab at Cornell University, and Kristen is working in Dr. Jie Song’s lab at the University of Massachussetts Medical School.


Spring 2014

May – Congratulations to 2014 graduates:  Hannah, Julie, Paloma, and Lauren!

May – Lauren’s senior thesis was awarded “Best Thesis in Biology” at Claremont McKenna College.  The title of her thesis is “Characterization of F-Box Gene     At1g61340 in Abiotic Stress Responses of Arabidopsis thaliana.”

April – Julie and Lauren presented their work at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in San Diego, CA.


April – Hannah, Julie, Lauren, Austin, and Anna presented their work at the West Coast Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Conference in Azusa, CA.
