I am working on visualizing what tissues FBS1-4 are induced in under different types of stress using GUS staining, phenotyping fbs1-4 knockouts under stress, and using BiFC to analyze the interactions between FBS1-4 and 14-3-3 proteins. Outside of the lab I like to dance, ski, row, backpack, embroider, and read!

I am studying a possible interactor of FBS1 that is known to affect the cell cycle as well as a unique process known as endocycling. My work focuses on confirming the interaction of my protein with FBS1 and examining what role it might play in regulating cell growth and division. I am also interested in how my protein could affect gene expression and what that means in terms of a larger pathway of protein interaction. If I’m not in the lab, there’s a good chance I’m in the kitchen, riding my bike, or in the mountains.

I study a potential FBS1 ubiquitylation target called FBS INTERACTING PROTEIN 1 (FBIP1).  We think FBIP1 might be a regulator of plant responses to environmental stress and that its degradation results in plant survival.
Through phenotypic analysis of Arabidopsis fbip1 mutants, I intend to further investigate the relationship between FBIP1 and FBS1 in Arabidopsis stress responses.  The data gained from my experiments could present new information about the role of FBS1 in plant stress response pathways and could inform a more extensive understanding of how plants survive environmental stress. Outside of the lab I like to explore vegan doughnut sources, pet all the dogs I can find on campus, and listen to podcasts.

I teach Genetics and Molecular Biology, work at the bench, mentor lab research activities, and play with F-box gene ideas.  When not in lab I am on the water or on the trail exploring the Pacific Northwest by sea kayak or on foot.
